About BelTech 2015
The 2nd annual BelTech Conference will be take place at Titanic Belfast on Thursday, April 30th. It will be preceded by a day of masterclasses on Wednesday 29th April in various locations across Belfast.
This conference will inform, inspire and engage Developers and Programmers, Data Scientists, Designers and Data Enthusiasts. With the introduction of a Start-up Track running alongside our Practitioner Track it will also appeal to local tech start-ups and entrepreneurs allowing them to innovate and compete more effectively.
This years key themes will focus on DevOps, Big Data, Cybersecurity , Internet of Things, Product Design, Funding and a special Dragons Den session. We will have a variety of local and international speakers and investors who will share their wealth of knowledge and expertise in their field.

Darragh McConvilleBig Data & Analytics Practice Lead - Kainos
Darragh is a Big Data Architect at Kainos, leading the Big Data & Analytics practice where he is responsible for strategy,thought leadership and engagement delivery. A firm believer in only getting out of life what you are prepared to put in, Darragh is on a life-long mission to learn one thing: more. When not on-the-job, Darragh is usually up a mountain or in a squash court. Darragh graduated from the University of Ulster in 2005 as the highest performing Software Engineering student. He subsequently joined Kainos and spent several years as a Software Engineer developing and supporting Financial Services applications.
Fergal DowneyVP Engineering - Bitnet
Fergal is currently VP of Engineering with FinTech startup Bitnet Technologies, who have built a global enterprise payments platform for digital currencies such as Bitcoin. Before joining Bitnet Fergal spent two years in Silicon Valley working with CyberSource (Visa) on their eCommerce platform. He has previously held numerous Leadership, Management and Engineering roles in HBOS, Ford Motor Company, Abbey National (Santander) and Fujitsu (ICL). Fergal holds a Computer Science degree from University of Ulster at Coleraine as well as an MSc in Software Process Improvement from Dundalk Institute of Technology.
Gareth BurnsHead of Development Operations - SQS
Gareth Burns is the Head of Development Operations for SQS and is a DevOps evangelist. With a primary focus on Development Consultancy, Gareth’s background is in application development for web and mobile. With over fifteen years commercial experience developing and delivering solutions for Enterprise and SME clients worldwide, Gareth’s expertise includes Development Management, Agile, Cloud Technologies, Development Tooling, Continuous Delivery and Development Quality. Gareth is a Microsoft Certified Professional Developer and studied Computing Science at the University of Glasgow.
